One Riverside, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Overview: This luxury residential high-rise is located in the historic Philadelphia neighborhood of Fitler Square, on the east bank of Schuylkill River. The 22-story reinforced concrete structure contains 68 residential units, a plaza to the south for entertaining, a green space to the south for a private garden, and an underground parking garage. GeoStructures performed a geotechnical investigation and construction and materials testing for the project.

GeoStructures was hired by Dranoff Properties to perform a geotechnical investigation in late 2014. Based on our review of the available subsurface information and findings from our borings, we recommended a mat foundation as the optimal support for the tower and the plaza in lieu of caissons. Working with the owner and design team, GeoStructures raised the core mat elevation to the top of the rock elevation to minimize rock excavation and eliminate rock anchors under the core mat.

In the summer of 2015, Dranoff Properties broke ground on One Riverside. GeoStructures performed construction inspection and materials testing for the project. The scopes of inspection work included foundation subgrade, rock anchor installation, and cast- in-place concrete testing. The project was successfully completed in early 2017.
