Soil Dynamics and Site-Specific Response Spectra Analyses
Building codes often require that new buildings, bridges, and other structures are checked to assess their seismic performance under a design earthquake. While recommendations in the building codes may often be used as a guide for design criteria, there are some projects where site-specific seismic analysis and design is required and warranted.
To perform a site-specific seismic analysis, GeoStructures first achieves a detailed understanding of the subsurface and the dynamic properties of the soils. Comprehensive geotechnical investigations, including Standard Penetration Testing (SPT), Cone Penetration Testing (CPT), Seismic Cone Penetration Testing (SCPT), high-quality soil sampling for laboratory resonant column testing, and geophysical investigations (MASW and cross-hole seismic shear wave velocity testing) are required to identify the critical and unique subsurface features. Findings are then incorporated into computer simulations to model the site-specific response spectra.
