Soil Dynamics and Site-Specific Response Spectra Analysis

Service Overview

Building codes often require that new buildings, bridges, and other structures are checked to assess their seismic performance under a design earthquake. While recommendations in the building codes may often be used as a guide for design criteria, there are some projects where site-specific seismic analysis and design is required and warranted.

To perform a site-specific seismic analysis, GeoStructures first achieves a detailed understanding of the subsurface and the dynamic properties of the soils. Comprehensive geotechnical investigations, including Standard Penetration Testing (SPT), Cone Penetration Testing (CPT), Seismic Cone Penetration Testing (SCPT), high-quality soil sampling for laboratory resonant column testing, and geophysical investigations (MASW and cross-hole seismic shear wave velocity testing) are required to identify the critical and unique subsurface features. Findings are then incorporated into computer simulations to model the site-specific response spectra.

Service Offerings

Geotechnical Investigations

Conduct Standard Penetration Testing (SPT), Cone Penetration Testing (CPT), Seismic Cone Penetration Testing (SCPT), and soil sampling for resonant column testing.

Geophysical Investigations

Utilize MASW and cross-hole seismic shear wave velocity testing to identify critical subsurface features.

Finite Element Method (FEM) Modeling

Use FEM to model site-specific response spectra for seismic performance assessment.

Site-Specific Seismic Analysis

Provide detailed analysis to ensure structures meet seismic design criteria.
