Drilling Services and Subsurface Investigations
Service Overview
Overcoming biased foundation directives can not only be demanding but can also be rewarding for a geotechnical engineer, and GeoStructures is truly at the forefront of this endeavor. GeoStructures has utilized innovative foundation systems on numerous projects—all of which dealt with difficult subsurface conditions, opposition, and local misconceptions. It is our conviction that, due to unique sets of conditions and influencing geologic factors, any sized project can benefit from a thorough subsurface investigation.
Test Borings and Test Pits
Conduct test borings and test pits to obtain soil and rock samples for evaluating subsurface conditions and informing foundation design.
Standard Penetration Testing (SPT)
Perform Standard Penetration Testing (SPT) to determine the density and strength of subsurface soils, providing critical data for geotechnical analysis.
Cone Penetrometer Testing (CPT)
Utilize Cone Penetrometer Testing (CPT) to measure soil properties and stratigraphy, aiding in the characterization of subsurface conditions.
Seismic Cone Penetration Testing (SCPT)
Execute Seismic Cone Penetration Testing (SCPT) to assess soil stiffness and shear wave velocity, crucial for seismic site response analysis.
Undisturbed (Shelby) Tube Sampling of Soils
Collect undisturbed soil samples using Shelby tubes to preserve soil structure for accurate laboratory testing and analysis.
Rock Coring
Conduct rock coring to obtain continuous core samples, enabling detailed examination of rock properties and geological features.
Air Rotary (Percussion) Drilling
Utilize air rotary (percussion) drilling to rapidly penetrate and sample hard rock formations, providing essential data for geotechnical investigations.
Direct Push or “Geoprobe” Sampling
Employ direct push or “geoprobe” sampling techniques to collect soil and groundwater samples without the need for traditional drilling methods.
Electromagnetic (EM), Seismic, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) & Microgravity Surveys
Perform geophysical surveys using EM, seismic, GPR, and microgravity methods to detect subsurface anomalies and inform site characterization.
Fracture Tracing and Photogrammetry
Conduct fracture tracing and photogrammetry using stereo pairs of aerial photos to map and analyze geological features impacting site stability.
Geologic Mapping
Create detailed geologic maps to document subsurface conditions, aiding in the identification of potential geotechnical hazards.
Geotechnical Instrumentation
Install and monitor geotechnical instrumentation to measure soil and rock behavior, ensuring the safety and stability of construction projects.
Hydrogeologic Studies Including Piezometers and Monitoring Wells
Conduct hydrogeologic studies using piezometers and monitoring wells to evaluate groundwater conditions and inform foundation design.
Laboratory Testing Services
Provide comprehensive laboratory testing services to analyze soil and rock samples, delivering critical data for geotechnical analysis.
Rock Structure Measurements (Strike and Dip of Beds, Joints, Faults, etc.)
Measure rock structures, including the strike and dip of beds, joints, and faults, to understand geological influences on site stability.
